6/21/04: 

Congratulations to three Falcon Baseball Players for receiving state-wide recognition. 

Senior Joseph Rasnake and Junior Nick Belcher were recently honored as All-State Selections. 

Rasnake was the Second Team All-State Utility player while Belcher was Second Team All-State at 

Second Base.  Junior Derek Widener was also an honorable mention All-State selection at Third Base.

                                                   

                                               

                                       

6/19/04:

At a season ending picnic on the grounds of Emory & Henry College,  The 2004 Abingdon Falcon 

Baseball Awards were presented.  Junior Dustin Howell was chosen as the recipient of the "Falcon Award"; which is given to the player that best exemplifies what it means to be a baseball player. 

 Junior Derek Widener was selected as the  "Most Improved Player" as he ended the season with a 

perfect record on the mound and vastly improved his batting average.  The "Jason Counts Memorial

Award"; which is presented to the teams' Most Valuable Player; was awarded to Senior  Joseph Rasnake and Junior Nick Belcher.  Belcher anchored the pitching staff and led the team with a .486 average; while Rasnake hit .414 and made only one error as he played stellar defense at three different positions.   

 

6/18/04:

The post-season accolades continue to roll in for the 2004 Abingdon Falcons.  AHS finished 

the regular season with a perfect record and ended their campaign at 19-1.  Along the way, the 

Falcons claimed the Big-Six Championship, The Highlands District Championship, and the 

Highlands District Tournament Championship.  Junior Nick Belcher was selected as the Highlands 

 District Player of the Year and Head Coach Trey McCall and his staff were awarded Coaches of the Year.

 The other First Team All- District selections for the Falcons included Senior Joseph Rasnake, and 

 Juniors  Dustin Howell, Derek Widener, and Isaiah Ellison. Seniors Blair Young, Zach Tritt, and Kyle 

 Allen as well as Junior Brock Whaling were Second Team All-District selections.  Joseph Rasnake, 

Nick Belcher, and Derek Widener  were chosen as First Team All Region IV performers, while 

Dustin Howell and Isaiah Ellison were tabbed as Second Team All Region.  

 

6/10/04:

Congratulations to Senior Joseph Rasnake on signing a scholarship with Virginia Intermont College 

 on June 10, 2004.  A three-year starter for the Falcons,  Rasnake earned Co-Team MVP honors in 2004

 as he hit .414 and played stellar defense to help lead AHS to a 19-1 record. A first team All-District 

and  All-Regional performer, Joseph is anticipated to earn a starting position on the  Cobra infield.  

 

     

6:3/04:

The Abingdon Falcons'  season came to an end as they were defeated by the Tazewell Bulldogs

 by  a score of 2 to 1.  Details of the game can be found in the Bristol Herald Courier. 

 

5/29/04:

Derek Widener tossed a complete game six-hitter and Isaiah Ellison blasted a three-run

 homer over the scoreboard in left field as the Abingdon Falcons defeated Virginia High  7 to 1 

in the  finals  of the Highlands District Tournament.  Details of the game can be

5/25/04:

In the opening round of the Highlands District Tournament, the Abingdon Falcons

 defeated  Lee High by a score of 7-0.  Details of the game can be found in today's editions of the 

Bristol Herald Courier and the Kingsport Times-News.  The Falcons will host Virginia High

 in the Championship game of the District Tournament on Saturday @ 8:00 p.m.  

 

5/22/04:

The Abingdon Falcons claimed the 2004 Highlands District Championship with a 5-3 victory over Virginia High.  The Falcons completed their regular season with a perfect 17-0 record.  Details of the game can be found in today's edition of the Bristol Herald Courier.  Abingdon will host Lee High on Tuesday in the opening round of the Highlands District Tournament. The Falcon Junior Varsity will be in action on Monday in the opening round of the J.V. Tournament.

 

5/21/04:

The Falcons improved their record to 16-0 with a 5-3 victory over John Battle.

The Falcons will be back in action tonight as they  host Virginia High @ 7:00 p.m.

 

5/18/04: 

Brock Whaling tossed a five-inning no-hitter as the Falcons defeated Patrick Henry 11-0.  

Nick Belcher had  3 hits and 3 RBI's and Isaiah Ellison added 2 hits and a pair of RBI's to lead the 

offensive attack.  Joseph  Rasnake also added a double and 2 RBI's, as he scored 3 of the Falcon runs.

 Senior Kyle Allen supplied  a  2 run single and  Jeremy Rouse added a double as Abingdon improved to

 15-0. The Falcons will travel to Patrick Henry tonight for a non-district game that begins @ 7:00 p.m.

 

5/13/04:

Nick Belcher tossed a perfect game as the Falcons defeated Lee High by a score of 20-0.  Belcher and Senior Joseph Rasnake  had 3 hits each and Senior Blair Young added a long home-run as Abingdon improved to 14-0 on the season. The Falcons will host Patrick Henry on Tuesday @ 7:00 p.m.

 

5/11/04:

 Abingdon improved to 13-0 with their 2-1 victory over visiting Grayson County.  Derek Widener

 tossed a complete game 4 hitter to improve his record to 5-0.  Justin Davis' single in the bottom 

of the 5th drove in both of the Falcon runs, while Junior Aaron Statzer added two hits in the victory. 

 The Falcons will travel to Lee High on Thursday for a district contest that begins @ 7:00 p.m.

 

5/6/04:

Derek Widener hit a three-run homer and drove in 4 RBI's as the Falcons defeated Marion 12-2.  Nick Belcher had two hits and two RBI's and Joseph Rasnake added a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the offensive attack. Dustin Howell and Kyle Allen also added RBI singles. Belcher improved his record to 

4-0 on the mound,  allowing only 1 hit and striking out 10 batters in five innings of work. Abingdon will return to Falcon Park on Monday night as they host Patrick Henry @ 7:00 p.m.

 

5/4/04:

The Falcons improved their overall record to 11-0 with a 9 to 1 victory over Richlands.  

Nick Belcher  had three hits, including a pair of run scoring doubles, to lead the offensive attack. 

Senior Kyle  Allen added two RBI's on a single and a double while fellow senior Joseph Rasnake had

 two RBI's on a pair  of hits.  Derek Widener added two hits, while Junior Isaiah Ellison was 1 for 2 with

 a pair of walks. Widener pitched a complete game as he scattered five hits to pick up his fourth victory 

of the season.  The Falcons will travel to Marion on Thursday night  for a 7:00 p.m. start.

 

5/3/04:

Today's game at Tazewell has been postponed due to poor weather conditions.

  The Falcons will be in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Richlands High School. 

 The game will be played at Southwest Virginia Community College beginning @ 5:00 p.m.

 

5/1/04:

The Abingdon Falcons came away with a thrilling 3 to 1 victory over Virginia High to improve their 

 record  to 10-o.  In a brilliant performance, Junior Nick Belcher had 18 strikeouts in 10  shutout innings of work.  Junior Brock Whaling  tossed the final two innings to pick up his third victory of the season.  Details of the game can be found in today's edition of the Bristol Herald Courier. 

 

 4/30/04:

Blair Young, Kyle Allen, and Nick Belcher all homered as the Falcons defeated Tennessee High 

by a score of 9 to 1.  Details of the game can be found in today's edition of the Bristol Herald Courier.  Abingdon will  be in action again tonight as they travel to Virginia High for a 7:00 p.m.  contest. 

 

4/29/04:

Isaiah Ellison's two-run blast in the top of the 7th inning was the difference as the Falcons defeated previously unbeaten Grayson County by a score of 7-3.  Later in that same inning, Nick Belcher provided some cushion as he also hit a two-run homer to deep left field.  Belcher led the offensive attack with 3 hits and 4 RBI's. Senior Zach Tritt  also added 3 hits as the Falcons improved their record to 8-0.  Junior 

Michael Scorsome picked up his first career start and responded with an effective 3 2/3' s innings of work.   Tritt also saw his first action of the season on the mound, tossing the final 3  1/3 innings to 

pick up the victory.  Abingdon will travel to Tennessee High tomorrow night. Game time is 7:00 p.m. 

 

4/28/04:

The Falcons defeated the Lee High Generals by a score of 10 to 0. Brock Whaling tossed a five-inning shutout to pick up his second victory of the season.  Kyle Allen led the offensive attack with two hits 

and two RBI's. Whaling also added a couple of singles and Nick Belcher provided a double and 

three RBI's.  Abingdon will travel to Grayson County this afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

 

 4/25/04:

 With their dominating 10 to 1 victory over John Battle, the Abingdon Falcons claimed the

 2004 Big-Six Championship.  Working on only two-days rest, Derek Widener tossed his second 

complete game of the  tournament.  Widener had 7 K's and scattered 5 hits in an impressive 90 pitch perfrormance.   Joseph Rasnake, Nick Belcher, and Dustin Howell had two hits each, while Widener contributed a triple.  Seniors Zach Tritt, Blair Young, and Kyle Allen were also instrumental in the victory as they repeatedly found ways to advance runners and pick up key RBI's. Young, Rasnake, 

Tritt, and junior Aaron Statzer also made several key defensive plays to help the Falcon cause.  

 Abingdon will travel to undefeated Grayson County on Monday. Game time is 4:30 p.m. 

4/24/04:

The Falcons will play in the Championship game of the Big-Six tournament after defeating 

Sullivan East by a score of 4 to 2.  Junior Nick Belcher picked up his third victory of the 

season and Senior Joseph Rasnake provided a run scoring double in the win.

 4/23/04:

Brock Whaling pitched a complete game as the Falcons defeated Tennessee High by a 

score of 5 to 1.  Blair Young hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the first and Nick Belcher

added two doubles to lead the offensive attack.  Details of the game can be found in today's

Bristol Herald Courier.  Abingdon will play host to Sullivan East tonight @ 7:00 p.m.

4/22/04:

The Falcons defeated Sullivan Central 4 to 3 in the opening round of the 

Big-Six Tournament. Derek Widener went the distance in leading Abingdon to the victory.

 4/16/04:
Nick Belcher was dominating as he tossed a no-hitter in the Falcons' 18-0 defeat of Marion.
Belcher had 9 K's as Abingdon was victorious in their district opener.  Derek Widener had
2 hits and drove in 4 runs to lead the offensive attack. Dustin Howell drove in 2 runs on 2 hits.
Joseph Rasnake and Zach Tritt each hit 2 run doubles, while Isaiah Ellison added a 

run scoring triple.  Senior Blair Young also provided a run scoring double. 

 

4/8/04:
