Former Abingdon Falcon and
current Georgia State baseball player Justin Malone was recently named to
the 2009 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team announced by
Collegiate Baseball. Details can be found at the
Georgia State Baseball website. Falcon Baseball would like to
congratulate Justin on this remarkable accomplishment.
The annual Falcon Baseball
camp will be divided into 2 sessions this summer. Session 1 will begin on
Monday June 15th and end on Tuesday June 16th. Session 1 is for for boys
ages 9 to 12. Session 2 will begin on Wednesday June 17th and end on
Thursday June 18th. Session 2 is for boys ages 6 to 8. The camp will begin
at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. each day. Click on the link below for a

Abingdon's 2009 season came to
a close as the Falcons were defeated 5 to 1 by Hidden Valley HIgh School.
Senior Nathan Hagy's solo homerun in the 1st inning was the only run the
Falcons were able to manage. Hagy and Senior Bobby Webb ended their high
school careers after leading Abingdon to an impressive 19-6 record.
The Falcons were victorious in
the opening round of the Region IV playoffs, defeating Patrick County High
School by a score of 10-3. Details can be found in today's edition of the

Abingdon claimed the #3 seed
in the Region IV tournament with their 14-2 victory over Carroll County.

School on Monday in the opening round of regional play. Game time is set
for 6:00 p.m.
Former Falcon continues to
shine: Abingdon's Justin Malone continued his stellar freshman season
at Georgia State University by helping the Panthers claim the Colonial
Athletic Conference Championship. Malone was selected to the CAA All
Tournament team after picking up a victory and a pair of saves in the 4
day tournament. Justin closed out the championship game, leading Georgia
State into the NCAA Tournament. Details can be found at the

The Falcons fell to 17-5 on
the season with their 6 to 2 loss against Richlands High School. Details
can be found in today's edition of the
Bristol Herald Courier.
Alexander Nadler pitched a
complete game in the opening round of the Southwest District Tournament as
Abingdon defeated Grundy 4-2. Details can be found in today's edition of

The Falcons were defeated by
Tazewell 6 to 5 as the Bulldogs claimed the 2009 district championship.

Sophomore Alexander Nadler
tossed 5 innings of strong relief to highlight Abingdon's 10-5 victory
over Marion. The Falcons trailed 5 to 2 heading into the seventh inning,
but responded with 8 eight runs in the top half of the frame. Sophomore
Heath Shelton provided three hits and three RBI to lead the offensive
attack. Taylor Read also added a pair of run scoring hits as Abingdon
improved to 16-3 on the season. The Falcons will host Tazewell on Monday
in the final game of the regular season. The game is scheduled to begin at
7:00 p.m.
The Falcons fell to 9-1 in
Southwest District play with their 6 to 4 defeat at Tazewell High School.

Senior Bobby Webb provided a
long two run homerun and also drove in a run on a single to highlight
Abingdon's 8-7 victory over Carroll County. Freshman Heath Shelton picked
up the victory in four strong innings of relief. Junior Zach Witt pitched
a scoreless 7th inning to pick up his 3rd save of the season. Senior
Nathan Hagy also had a pair of run scoring hits as the Falcons improved to
15-2 overall and 9-0 in Southwest District play.
After a two-hour rain delay,
the Falcons held on to defeat Richlands by a score of 10-9. In the bottom
of the sixth inning, Senior Nathan Hagy provided a two out triple that
tied the score at 9 to 9. Junior Zach Witt followed with a double to left
center to provide the winning margin for the Falcons. As the sixth inning
ended, a lightening and rain storm left the already saturated field under
water. After the extensive delay, Junior Zach Witt picked up his 6th
victory pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Hagy and Junior Kenny Pope
each had two hits and 3 RBI on the night. Luke Hilt and Heath Shelton had
two hits each, while Junior Taylor Read provided a run scoring double.
Abingdon improved to 14-2 on the season and will host Carroll County on
Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
Junior Taylor Read was the
winning pitcher and also provided the offensive punch as the Falcons
defeated Graham High School by a score of 12 to 1. Read had two doubles
and 4 RBI in the victory. Junior Kenny Pope also added a pair of hits and
2 RBI as the Falcons improved to 13-2 on the season.
Abingdon improved to 6-0 in
the Southwest District with a convincing 15-0 victory over visiting
Grundy. Junior Josh Barker had two hits, including a 3 RBI triple to lead
the offensive attack. Taylor Read, Kenny Pope, and Luke Hilt each added
two hits in the victory. Zach Witt only allowed a pair of hits as he
picked up his 5th victory of the season. The Faclons will travel to Graham
on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. start.

sixth victory of the season as the Falcons slipped by visiting Graham 5-1.
Sophomore Alexander Nadler had two hits in the victory. Abingdon will host
Grundy tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. for a SWD contest.
The Falcons dropped a 1-0
decision at the hands of non-district rival Virginia High. In the rubber
match of a rare three game series, Abingdon was limited to only 2 hits,
led by Josh Barker's double. Junior Taylor Read went the distance for as
the Falcons fell to 10-2 on the season.
Abingdon improved to 10-1 on
the season with their 13-3 victory over John Battle. Details can be found

Nathan Hagy had 9 K's in four
innings of work as Abingdon defeated Marion by a score of 11-0. Hagy was
also the offensive leader for the Falcons providing a single, double, and
a two-run homerun as Abingdon improved to 9-1 on the season. Sophomore
Luke Hilt and Junior Taylor Read each added a pair of hits in the victory.
The Falcons will host John Battle on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
Abingdon improved their record
to 8-1 with a doubleheader sweep of Cave Spring High School. In game one,
Junior Taylor Read scattered three hits in 6 2/3's innings of work as the
Falcons defeated the Knights by a score of 4 to 1. Junior Josh Barker
highlighted the offensive attack, hitting his second homerun of the
season. Zach Witt recorded the final out to pick up his second straight save.
In game two, Zach Witt tossed a 5 inning no-hitter as the Falcons defeated
Cave Spring 11 to 0. Kenny Pope provided the offensive punch, blasting a
two-run homerun. Luke Hilt added a pair of doubles, while Barker provided
a pair of singles. The Falcons will be in action again on Tuesday as they
host Marion in a Southwest District match up beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Falcons improved to 6-1
with their come from behind 4-3 victory at Carroll County High School.
Senior Nathan Hagy notched the victory, while Junior Zach Witt picked up
the save. The Cavaliers scored three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning,
but Hagy responded by not allowing another run in the next 5 2/3's
innings. Hagy helped his own cause with an RBI triple, while Witt provided
a single and an RBI. Kenny Pope and Luke Hilt each doubled in the victory.
A big day of baseball is slated for Falcon Park on Saturday beginning with
Abingdon Junior League's jamboree beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Falcons will
then host River Ridge power Cave Spring in a doubleheader beginning at
2:00 p.m.
Three former Abingdon Falcons
were instrumental in King College's victory over Brevard College on
Wednesday. Tyler Malone picked up the win, improving his record to
3-0 on the season. Nick Belcher picked up the save, striking out the side
in the 9th inning. Derek Salyer also scored a run for the Tornado.

Abingdon opened district play with a 10-0 victory at Grundy. Junior Kenny
Pope led the offensive attack with 3 hits, while Senior Bobby Webb
provided a pair of hits, including a triple. The Falcons improve to 3-1
and will host Marion at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Freshman Heath Shelton and
Junior Zach Witt combined to shutout John Battle as the Falcons defeated
the Trojans 1-0. Senior Nathan Hagy had 2 hits, including an RBI double in
the victory.
Nathan Hagy had 10 strikeouts
in 6 innings of work as the Falcons defeated J. J. Kelly 11-2. Hagy also
provided a pair of hits, including a 2 run homerun to spark the offensive
attack. Junior Zach Witt had three hits and Junior Taylor Read added a
pair of hits and had 4 RBI in the victory.

Former Falcon Justin Malone
helped lead the Georgia State Panthers to a 10-1 victory over Georgia
Tech in a game televised nationally on Fox Sports. Malone had a pair of
hits and an RBI while providing stellar defense as the Panthers defeated
the #3 ranked team in nation.
The Falcons opened their 2009
season with a 3-2 loss to their non-district rival Virginia High. Abingdon
did not get much going offensively as they only managed two hits. Senior
Bobby Webb provided a run scoring single and Sophomore Luke Hilt also
singled in the loss. The Falcons will travel to J. J. Kelly for a 6:00
p.m. start on Tuesday, March 24th.

Falcon Senior
Justin Malone recently signed a scholarship to continue his baseball
career at Georgia State University. The Panthers, a D1 program and a
member of the Colonial Athletic Association Conference, expect Malone to
provide an immediate impact as a middle infielder. A three year
starter at shortstop, Malone set school records in '08 for hits and runs
scored in a season. Details can be found at the

Several
Falcon players
were honored with post season accolades. Senior shortstop Justin Malone
and Junior outfielder Nathan Hagy were selected to the first team
Southwest District and All-Region IV teams. Sophomore pitcher Zach Witt
was a first team Southwest District and a 2nd team Region IV selection.
Senior Matt Rasnake was a first team All District performer, while
Sophomore second baseman Josh Barker was a second team selection.
Malone and Hagy were also selected to the honorable mention All-State
team.
After claiming the
Region IV title and qualifying for the state tournament, Abingdon's
coaching staff was selected as the Region IV coaching staff of the year.
In addition, Falcon skipper Mark Francisco was honored as Southwest
Virginia Coach of the Year. Details can be found in the

The Falcons' 2008
season came to an end on Tuesday night as they were defeated 6-2 by
visiting Waynesboro. Abingdon only managed four hits in front of a
capacity crowd at Falcon Park. Seniors Justin Malone, Casey Payne, and
Preston Pionk along with sophomore Josh Barker provided the offensive
punch. The loss marked the end of the high school careers of six seniors.
Falcon Baseball will definitely miss these fine young men. The Seniors
included: Tyler Bailey, Brandon Ketron, Justin Malone, Casey Payne,
Preston Pionk, and Matt Rasnake, Abingdon won the 2008 Region IV title for
only the third time in school history, with their last title coming in
