(7/21/05) Three Falcon players were recently honored with state-wide recognition. Senior Nick Belcher was selected as the 1st Team 2nd Baseman while Senior Derek Widener was chosen as the 2nd Team Pitcher. Senior Isaiah Ellison was also an Honorable Mention selection.
(7/20/05) Former Falcons Derek Widener and Dustin Howell recently signed with Ferrum College to continue their baseball careers. Widener was the Highlands District and Big-Six player of the year while Howell was an All-District and All-Regional performer. Both players are expected to have an impact with the Panthers program in 2006. They are pictured above with their parents and former Abingdon Head Coach, Trey McCall.
(6/21/05) The 2005 Abingdon Falcon Baseball Awards were presented at a season ending picnic at Falcon Park. Junior Ben Barker was selected as the "Most Improved Player" ending the '05 season with a .339 average and 12 RBI. Senior Nick Belcher(.406, 23 RBI, 5-1, 1.28 ERA) was chosen as the recipient of the "Falcon Award", which is given to the player that best exemplifies what it means to be a baseball player. Senior Derek Widener (11-2, 0.64 ERA, .357, 21 RBI) was selected as the "Jason Counts Memorial Award" winner which is given to the team's Most Valuable Player.
(6/20/05) The post-season accolades for the 2005 Abingdon Falcons have been numerous. The Falcons repeated as Highlands District Champions ending the season with a 17-5 record. Senior Derek Widener was selected as the "Player of the Year" for both the Highlands District and the Big-Six. Widener, Nick Belcher, and Isaiah Ellison were 1st team All-Region IV selections. 2nd team All-Region selections for the Falcons included Dustin Howell and Eric Silcox. Widener, Belcher, Howell, Ellison, and Silcox were selected as 1st team All Highlands District; while Aaron Statzer, Jeremy Rouse, Ben Barker, Tyler Malone, and James Kelly were 2nd team selections. The Falcons were also recognized by the Herald Courier's "All Southwest Virginia" and "All Big Six" All-Star teams with Derek Widener, Nick Belcher, and Eric Silcox garnering 1st team selections. The All-State teams will be chosen in July.
(6/15/05) Falcon assistant coach Mark Francisco was recently chosen to succeed Trey McCall as Head Coach of the Abingdon Falcons. Coach McCall accepted the Head Coaching position at prestigious Emory & Henry College. Details can be found in the Herald Courier.
(6/3/05) Abingdon was upended by Dan River 1-0, ending the 2005 season for the Falcons. Details can be found in the Herald Courier. Dustin Howell, Nick Belcher, Jeremey Rouse, Isaiah Ellison, Derek Widener, and Aaron Statzer were the Falcon seniors that ended their careers on Friday night. It was also Head Coach Trey McCall's last game with AHS, as he moves on to become the Head Coach at prestigious Emory & Henry College.
(5/29/05) The Abingdon Falcons were victorious in the championship game of the Highlands District Tournament; defeating Virginia High by a score of 12 to 4. The Falcons will host a Region IV semi-final contest on Thursday night @ 7:00 p.m., facing the winner of Tuesdays' Tazewell/Dan River contest. The J.V. Falcons also claimed the Highlands District Championship, defeating Virginia High 4 to 2. Justin Malone tossed a complete game to pick up the victory.
(5/25/05) Senior Aaron Statzer was recently selected as the recipient of the Bristol Baseball/Bristol White Sox Scholarship. The award is annually given to a senior from one of the areas Big-Six high schools. Details can be found on the Appy League website.
(5/25/05) In opening round play of the Highlands District Tournament, the Falcons defeated Lee High by a score of 14 to 1. Isaiah Ellison had 3 hits, including a triple, to spark Abingdon's offense. Derek Widener improved to 11-1 on the year, scattering 5 hits in 5 innings of work. The Falcons will host Virginia High in the finals of the Highlands District Tournament on Saturday night @ 7:00 p.m.

(5/12/05) The Abingdon Falcons defeated Lee High by a score of 10 to 3 to improve to 4-0 in the Highlands District. Nick Belcher went the distance, striking out 11 batters to notch the victory. Eric Silcox led the attack with a 3 for 4 night at the plate. Ben Barker had two hits, while Jeremy Rouse and Aaron Stazter provided back to back triples. (5/8/05) Congratulations to Tyler Malone and Isaiah Ellison on their recent victory in the first annual Hilt & Stilt Bank and Boat Fishing Tournament. The one day event was held on Saturday at South Holston Lake.

(4/10/05) The Falcons erupted for six runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-2 victory over Tennessee High. Aaron Hagy picked up the victory, holding the Vikings to 2 runs on 7 hits. (4/9/05) Jason Lunsford notched his first victory of the season, scattering 4 hits in 6 innnings of work, as the Falcons overcame a sluggish start to defeat Sullivan Central 8-6. Dustin Howell picked up the game winning RBI with a single in the top of the 7th and Derek Widener picked up the save as he retired the Cougar side in order. Eric Silcox had three hits to help lead the offensive attack in a game that ended at 12:42 a.m.

(4/1/05) The Falcons defeated Sullivan South 10-0 in five innings on Thursday afternoon to claim third place in the inaugural K-Mets Classic. Derek Widener notched his second win of the season as he scattered three hits in five innings of work. Home runs by James Kelly, Isaiah Ellison, and Eric Silcox highlighted the offensive attack.
